IB Swedish A Support

SparkSwedish provides specialist support for students taking Swedish A as part of the IB Diploma Programme. Whether you are planning to study Swedish A: Literature as a school-supported self-taught subject or are already taking a Swedish A course at school, our experienced IB teachers can help you develop the analytical, written and oral skills required for the course.

 

Successfully completing any IB Swedish A course fulfils the Swedish-language entry requirement for university study in Sweden and is also recognised for university applications in other Nordic countries.​

Swedish A: Literature, school-supported self-taught

IB Diploma Programme students are encouraged to study their first or strongest language, even when it is not offered as a taught subject at their school. In these circumstances, students may take Swedish A: Literature at Standard Level as a school-supported self-taught subject.

 

SparkSwedish provides structured guidance from an experienced IB teacher throughout the two-year course. We work closely with the student and their school to ensure that the support reflects the course requirements and complements the school’s responsibilities.

Swedish A: Literature and Swedish A: Language and Literature

SparkSwedish also provides supplementary support for students taking Swedish A: Literature or Swedish A: Language and Literature as a taught subject at school.

 

Whether you are preparing to begin the course or are already studying it, our experienced IB teachers can help you strengthen your literary and non-literary analysis, academic writing and oral presentation skills. Support can also focus on the individual oral, the higher level essay and preparation for the final examinations, depending on the course and the student’s needs.

SparkSwedish offers ten one-hour sessions focusing on the comparative essay. You will develop your understanding of the works you have studied, learn how to compare and contrast them effectively and explore different ways to structure a clear and convincing essay.

  • Ten teacher-led sessions focusing on the comparative essay

  • Comprehensive learning materials

  • Sample Paper 2 responses for discussion

  • Detailed feedback on two comparative essays

Prepare for Paper 1: Language and Literature

SparkSwedish offers ten one-hour sessions focusing on the analysis of non-literary texts. You will practise analysing a range of text types, including advertisements, opinion columns and speeches. You will also explore different ways to structure an analysis and use a register and style appropriate to the task.

 

This course includes:

  • Ten teacher-led sessions focusing on textual analysis

  • Comprehensive learning materials

  • Texts and extracts for analysis

  • Detailed feedback on two textual analyses
