In Sweden, Midsummer is one of the most celebrated traditions of the year. This year, it is celebrated today – on the 23rd of June. The longest day falls around this time of year and historically, midsummer was an important day and the celebrations were held to welcome summertime and the season of fertility.
Today you can watch Swedes dance around a midsummer pole with flowers in their hair at the same time as they are eating herring, potatoes, and sour cream. To top it all off, many eat strawberries or yummy strawberry cake.
